Malacca, 23 April 2012 – Since its establishment in 1996, the Department of Standards Malaysia (Standards Malaysia) have developed a total of 6362 Malaysian Standards (MS) from various sectors relevant to the current market needs. It is our hope that more standard will be implemented by the industry and regulatory bodies to ensure the safety and health of consumers by producing quality products and services. It also can increase the competitiveness of Malaysia.

Accordingly, the Government of Malaysia represented by Standards Malaysia and the Malacca State Government intends to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the use and implementation of the Malaysian Standards (MS). The signing ceremony was held at Puteri Resort Ayer Keroh Malacca today at 3.00 pm. The ceremony was further held together with the implementation of the MoU for the use of MS in the "Outdoor Activities & Adventure Eco-Tourism" in Malacca.

MS in "Outdoor Activities & Adventure Eco-Tourism" developed by Standards Malaysia under the ISO Tourism Technical Committee based on the international standard ISO that emphasize safety, Hygiene and Comfort for each visitor / user and the well-being of the environment and ecological balance. Persatuan Kembara & Persahabatan Alam Tropika Malaysia (MyLEAF) who is a smart partner of the STANDARDS MALAYSIA act as the MS implementer. In addition, with its strategic position and right environment, Puteri Resort Ayer Keroh, Melaka was chosen as the base for the implementation of MS.

The MS is able to promote best practice guidelines in the travel and leisure activities in order to avoid unwanted accidents. With the adoption of MS, it is believed to attract more local and international tourists to Malacca for hiking and recreational activities as well as developing the tourism industry in Malaysia.
